And yes, that is a Massasauga rattlesnake. I kept a safe distance and respected his space. But I did stick around to redirect traffic until he was safely across the road. These snakes are endangered (or threatened) and only live in one area of Ontario, around Georgian Bay. They are non-aggressive and only bite as a last resort. So, you know, just leave them be, wear long pants while hiking and watch where you step. And keep an eye on the roads if driving in the area, as they love to sun themselves.

Okay but… why do my best ideas always show up in the shower?

I might stare at the blank page for an hour, and nothing. Nada. Then, the second I step into the shower, it’s like POP, there it is, in a moment when I can’t write them down or even do a quick voice note, without wrecking my phone.

Maybe it’s because creativity hates being forced. It’s like a guest who shows up fashionably late. Annoying, inconvenient, but you’re glad when it arrives.

But the wait, the uncertainty, is how creativity keeps us awake, how it makes sure we’re paying attention.
